Owner, Lead wedding planner & Designer

Hi! I'm Emily, the lead planner, designer and owner of Events by Emily, LLC. I work closely with all of our full service couples, and create the design presentations for our partial planning clients.
A little more about me: I graduated from Wesleyan University in 2007. After college in the Northeast, I worked in New York City for ten years, before moving to North Carolina to start my own company. I began my career in restaurant management, where I developed my palate for food and wine. (Italian whites are my favorite!) In my 20s, I was a maitre’d at Union Square Café and the General Manager of brucie restaurant in Cobble Hill.
After working in private events over the years, I quickly realized that event planning was my passion. While serving as the Event Director at two downtown Manhattan venues, I started producing weddings and other events for friends, family, and independent clients. Over the years, I have planned weddings in New York, Virginia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Maine and California.
I'm originally from Charlottesville, Virginia, and grew up surrounded by the greenery and beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The South's lush landscape inspires my event design work. I focus on a colorful, high-end, approachable design style. I have an ongoing interest for marrying luxury events and sustainable practices, and you’ll see that reflected in our work. When I'm not busy planning my next big event (hint: doing this most of the time!), I can be found at home in Durham with my husband Stuart, my son Julian and our dog Levi. I’m passionate about creating a meaningful and valued experience for all of my clients, and I love to travel! Let’s chat!
Dana Statkun-Howley

Hi there! I’m Dana. I’m the lead planner for our Event Management couples, and I also assist Emily with all of our our partial and full service planning events.
I’m originally from Northeastern Pennsylvania, and went to college for Hospitality Management. In college, my early experiences working in restaurants and hotels gave me a strong foundation in customer service.
I moved to Durham in 2018 with my husband, and we never looked back! After our move, I worked at 21C Museum Hotel as an Event Sales Manager. I then became a lead event planner at a full service catering company, and that’s where my true love for weddings began! Most recently, I worked in sales and marketing for Heart of NC Weddings, the primary wedding magazine in our region, where I built strong relationships with local wedding vendors.
When I got married, I embraced my love of wedding planning, and felt that my experience from multiple vendor roles helped the process run smoothly. There is nothing more exciting than seeing all of the details come together on a wedding day! I also love forming a personal connection with my couples leading up to the most important day of their lives.
In my downtime, I love going to the Durham Farmer’s Market with my husband Chard, checking out local restaurants and cafes, or heading to the coast or mountains for a weekend getaway. I hope to work with you soon!
